...to use on the new couch logo.

midnight monk is currently designing a new couch logo for us (thank you, MM!) which will be posted up after christmas. where the escher print used to be, that "picture frame" will now be a spot for featuring the black and white photography of our couch members.

this is how it will work.

1. post your black & white photos in this thread, like this:

or like this:

www.tierrasimbolica.com/alb...um/2006-11-roadtrip/15.jpg

2. if you don't know how to convert your color photos to black & white, you can post it in color and i will convert it for you.

3. the photo should be a horizontal photo (meaning the width is greater than the height), no larger than 600 pixels wide. the photo will be resized to fit inside the frame. it will look something like this:

4. photos of nudity or profanity will not be used. otherwise, it can be a photo of anything you like: landscape, people, objects, whatever.

5. it must be your own original photo. you will retain the copyright and be acknowledged for the photo in the acknowledgements section at the bottom of each couch page.

6. contribute as many photos as often as you like. photos will be rotated regularly, depending on how many contributions are made in this thread. if there are a lot of contributions, it may be rotated weekly; if not, then quarterly, or somewhere in between. whenever possible, i will alternate between members so that the same member is not featured twice in a row.

I like the idea lib.

By the way... you mention nudity and profanity not being allowed... while nudity seems pretty straight forward (at least on the surface), in terms of profanity do you mean like a picture of someone giving us the finger or displaying swear words?

My thinking is that perhaps, while generally using the "no nudity or profanity" as a guideline, any photo that may somehow use these elements could still be submitted and then vetted for "assessment" (i.e., is the nudity or profanity purely frivolous or does it serve some worthwhile purpose).

To be quite honest I don't have any specific examples in mind now, but I know that I have at times seen material of the type that might superficially fall under the category of "nudity or profanity" but which really used those elements judicisouly and constructively. In the end, you can still always say no... just my two cents...

basically, yes.

well, technically, a picture of a person's face, or a hand, or a bare foot, is nudity if someone really wanted to challenge the guideline. i trust that people understand what i mean by it.

i don't generally have an issue with nudity or profanity in art; the guideline concerns the issue of what first impression people will have when they come to the couch. rather than letting it become a question of one person's artistic validity over another, it is much more simple to express a basic guideline in these terms.

peacelib

p.s. props to MM for suggesting that we use the picture frame for featuring our members.

Yes this is very true... irrespective of what content you might allow (or tolerate) in the forum itself, you probably wouldn't want it up front as soon as you came upon the main page...

For those who wonder: 'vlaaikesgang' can be roughly translated as: 'corridor of pies'. wink

Took this today, 1/12/07. This is a very high building for vehicle parking, near what once was a mall. Now there is a big megaplex movie theater and some shops where the mall used to be. Not far from Honolulu's China town. The view is quite spectacular at the top.

Hey, my wife's on the top of the forum playing air-piano. grin Actually, I was taking pictures of her for her dance instruction (predominantly latin) website. She's a talented dancer.

Thanks For The Help Lib.clap

Umm...
There. Those are my contributions.

The first picture is of my living room ceiling
The second picture is of a frozen bush that was next to my school's parking lot in a cloudless winter afternoon.
The third picture is a frozen tree branch in my backyard in the morning.
And the last one is of my dog in my room.
Click on any of the links to see more of my pictures and tell me what you think by sending me a PM or any other form of contact.

Thank You,
Mr. Mario
