Subject: Enlightenment
To be enlightened is to see everything clearly in the light that emanates from Oneself.

However, the light can only “shine” when the mirror is clean - i.e. when no judgements, emotions and other obstacles obscure the sight.

Since such condition is scarce, even rarer is the event of enlightenment and – considering our characteristic short attention span – fleeting as well.

Yet it is apparently so impressive, that almost anyone who experiences it will seek its re-occurrence.

Taking into account the amount of respective Buddhist, Taoist, Hindu & Zen schools, and the number of permanent enlightened individuals - there seem more efforts being taken in the Orient than in the Occident*. Probably because the dualistic R/P mode of latter, its rationalism and feedback-mechanism of the intellect, inhibit Selfrealisation. Moreover, occidental seekers were often forced into the Occult, and to hide their methods & results – conditions unfavourable to enlightenment which, after all, is synonymous with liberty.
In the beginning of the twentieth century A.Crowley introduced, as head of the “Ordo Templi Orientis”, a liberation tool developed in Buddhist & Hindu Tantra schools, that came to be known as sexual Magick, and to be able to annihilate the social & internal obstacles arising from sexual taboos, and to be a short path to Illumination.

*Orient and Occident connote here R/P (Reflection/Projection) systems, as well as cerebral and global hemispheres (see “Another view of Consciousness”)

Enlightenment seems most ordinarily to occur during sexual activity, when Kundalini cleans the mirrors on her fiery rise in the spinal cord.
Kundalini is a Tantric term for the energy snake curled at the bottom of the spinal cord - her rushing up manifests as a burning sensation. Her journey through the Chacras has been published plentiful and ought to be studied in authorized works

One day the Fifth Patriarch told his monks to express their wisdom in a poem. Whoever had true realization of his original nature (Buddha Nature) would be ordained the Sixth Patriarch. The head monk, Shen Hsiu, was the most learned, and wrote the following:

The body is the wisdom-tree,
The mind is a bright mirror in a stand;
Take care to wipe it all the time,
And allow no dust to cling.

The poem was praised, but The Fifth Patriarch knew that Shen Hsiu had not yet found his original nature, on the other hand, Hui Neng couldn't even write, so someone had to write down his poem, which read:

Fundamentally no wisdom-tree exists,
Nor the stand of a mirror bright.
Since all is empty from the beginning,
Where can the dust alight

The Fifth Patriarch pretended that he wasn't impressed with this poem either, but in the middle of the night he summoned Hui Neng. The Fifth Patriarch gave him the insignia of his office, the Patriarch's robe and bowl (source). Hui Neng was told to leave for the South and to hide his enlightenment and understanding until the proper time arrives for him to propagate the Dharma.

Sex really has nothing to do with enlightenment, that is just wishful thinking and an excuse to have sex.

Are you suggesting that the many Chinese- Indian- and Buddhist Tantra schools are run by sex-maniacs?

That would be the logical conclusion, though the Patriarchs of those schools certainly don't think so, they would try to tell you that it is just a natural occurrence. I also find it hard to believe that even many of the Patriarchs recommend that as standard practice, more like an anomalous practice of a few.

“Know Thy Self” and “Do Thy Will” concern Prajna, the active principle of Ultimate Reality, manifesting as integration & differentiation as unifying & creative urge (in Liber Al vel Legis represented by Nuit & Hadit) – Hui Neng calls Prajna the Wisdom of Enlightenment and it to be “inherent in our mind`s essence”, Crowley calls it “True Nature”.

(The many terms should not confuse – after all it is common for the inexpressible to give rise to innumerable words.)

“Our essence of Mind is intrinsically pure; if we knew our Mind perfectly and realised what our Self-nature truly is, all of us would be enlightened.” (Bodhisattva Sila Sutra)

In the Orient there are plenty of schools and teachings which attend the different needs and temperaments of seekers of enlightenment. That they seem rarely able to cover the needs of Occidental seekers, is mainly because latter are mostly subject to Dualism, respective rationalism and intellectual feedback mechanism. That is not to say that eastern students do not use intellectual techniques, but they are taught how far to utilise them (which is not all the way to the beginning), whereas western thinkers think that they have to think all the way to the end, and thus often wind up in the trap voiced by Descartes (which some of them call enlightenment too)
