Subject: The Couch Renaissance
Having returned to The Couch Forum after a seven year hiatus I have a few thoughts to share. In 2007 I caught "The Couch Fever," literally hanging on every word, thought, idea, or philosophy presented. In addition, the artistic permeated the website. It was replete with pictures, drawing, and poetry. After work at the office I could not wait to get home to read the latest topic or post. What an exchange of thoughts took place. Disparate positions on a manifold of subjects. One term that stuck with me was by Midnight Monk...the term was "the phenomenal manifold," which he used when referring to the universe and all creation. In fact, when trying to come up with a definition of the universe, I borrowed his term, using it in my definition. If you, per chance, would like to know my definition, it is this: The universe is an atomic micro and macro cosmic four dimensional phenomenal manifold existing in a time-space continuum. What really blows my mind is the fact that while I'm sitting here typing this entry, I'm spinning around the sun at 66,200 m.p.h. At any rate, returning to my original thoughts regarding The Couch Forum, I predict that a Renaissance will begin in 2014, one that will shock us all, and go on and on. Literally, there are thousands of people on The World Wide Web that need The Couch Forum, and the opportunity it gives for people young and old a place to express themselves. Sincerely, Wentworth DeHavilland

I also believe that internet forums could be the platform for a Renaissance, but I also see that any open platform attracts many that have nothing to contribute, but clutter it with dross. But I continue to search in the mud for the occasional pearl, The couch seems to be relatively free of dross. I am on several other forums that are littered with meaningless, and hostile posts. And Henry can verify that we were both on a forum that was shut down because of the content, (that we, and others, were trying to oppose).

If the couch is free of dross we must fix it post haste to prevent this inevitable apocalypse (of an impending renaissance).

Quick, get out the dross colored paint and get to work. Everything must look like dross. Empty the trash cans onto the floor. Sew miscellaneous garbage onto your clothes. Build up scrap metal pyre to burn the sacrificial refuse on, in the name of our savior (and condemnator), the lord of dross.

I surmise that if you look like dross you'll be able to easily disappear into landscape when the beast comes slouching toward the couch(ing).

People will come and say to themselves (in a cartoon bubble). Hmmm. I don't see anyone here to have a conversation with, just piles and piles of digital garbage that for some absurd reason persists in time and space.

Keeping a low profile can be a good thing, but looking at the recent activity on the couch, I don't think it can get much lower.

Sorry about that, we've had it cleaned and disinfected since then.

Interesting to hear that one's words or concepts have found a home somewhere with some person. 99% of the time on forums I felt like I was talking to myself...ranting into the cyber wind as it were. And then someone whose name is totally unrecognizable to me (were you just lurking in the past, Wentworth?) pulls out a great gem like 'phenomenal manifold' which was a key piece of my puzzle when I was a philosopher. You never know how your words and actions impact others, especially people who aren't directly connected to you. Think about that next time you scowl at the cashier or fail to give a pleasant greeting to your mailman.

Renaissance? I dunno. Do ppl still USE discussion forums like this? The couch seems a bit outdated nowadays...maybe the logo should change to be a ratty old couch collecting mold in the alleyway. Lol, if you look at some of the old Coffee Tables, I think I have a pic like that somewhere.
