In some cases, where people are really able to afford easily, sending $500 to a charity or to a religious cause might in fact invoke religious feelings in an otherwise miserly and stingy person. It's a good habit to spend a fraction of your income for religious causes and for feeding poor and for educating people. Charity does begin at home though, and I must not be misunderstood in that I don't endorse supporting scams--but sometimes superstitious looking spending of $500 might really make you feel much better than spending it on wine and luxury. smiling face

Donating to a legitimate charity is certainly good and the cause it usually clearly stated, as is what the money is to be used for. But when there is a specific amount requested as 'Seed Money' that will bring the giver a more valuable blessing from God, the request is suspect. The use of the money is not specified other than to advance the ministry of those making the request. The ilegality is difficult to prove as the 'gift' was voluntary and there was no specific promise of a benifit, or use for the money. As stated a legitimate charity will have clearly stated goals and uses for donations. Where there is no clear statment of where the money is going the request is suspect.

As much as it's good to spend for worthy causes, it's bad to spend for misuse, in other words I agree.
