Subject: Give me your troubles
Hi folks,

My concert is coming up on Saturday. I'm very nervous, as this is the first time I've played where people are actually paying for tickets - shudder. I've done poetry like this, but not with a guitar as well. There is so much to go wrong!!

Anyway, here is another song that I'll be doing on the night. I've tried to keep the message very simple and accessible, with a memorable hook.

Cheers, e-nervous

Troubles Song

I met a woman walking in the street
I tried to slip past; be discrete
But she gave me her troubles
She gave them to me.

I met a man in the local pub
He said his life was not much good
And he gave me his troubles
He gave them to me.

Oh give me your troubles; give them to me
Give me your troubles; set them free
Give me your troubles
Just give them to me. X2 (Chorus)

I had my old Mum on the phone,
She said there was some trouble at home
And she gave me her troubles
She gave them to me.

I heard a knock at the back door
Should I answer?
I wasn’t sure
It could be troubles, coming to me.

Oh give me your troubles; give them to me
Give me your troubles; set them free
Give me your troubles
Just give then to me. X2

So if you’ve got troubles
That are getting you down
You can call on me; I’m always around
You can give me your troubles
Give them to me.

I’ve got all these troubles,
Stacked up high; there’s no room in the house
I can’t squeeze by; for the piles of troubles
Given to me.

So, give me your troubles; give them to me
Give me your troubles; set them free
Give me your troubles
Just give them to me.

I’m drowning in troubles, I’ve got no space
I’m repenting in leisure what I gathered in haste
I’ve trouble with troubles and that’s no lie.
But I’ve always been an easy touch
And one more trouble mightn’t be too much.
So give me your troubles,
Give them to me.

So, give me your troubles; give them to me
Give me your troubles; set them free
Give me your troubles
Just give them to me.

Your songs are enjoyable, which is a word I hardly ever use to describe anyone's work, and do believe me when I say I mean this as a compliment. They are so simple to read, the repetitions always work because they focus on what we can relate to so easily, so we expect and anticipate their reappearance.

Strangely, the simplicity of the wording, and what reads like a slightly humourous and light-hearted approach, in my interpreration, only allows the actual darkness, the sombre quality of this and your other piece titled 'why can't life be like the movies?' to make its way gradually into our minds, our hearts, and only becomes more poignant as a result.

The sorrow you express is unlike anything I've ever seen before...

Oxygen,

You've got it spot on, and thanks for the analysis. It is sorrow that I am expressing, although maybe that's not immediately apparent. Im feeling that we can't give anyone else our troubles and we can't make life to be the way we would like it. There is an existential message in there.

I've always been a gloomy type.

From what I know, you are a man of many questions, perhaps too many questions. Your life would be simpler if you focused only on the questions which matter and finding an answer that works for you. I know, it's an easy thing to say... I still struggle with that myself.

You are a good man, Alex.
