Yawn!
"Are we picking up anything on the instruments yet?"

"Not a thing, you'd think with all the excitment there would be something."

"Yea, and we can't even talk about it to anyone. Any thing about the drillers they're sending down?"

"Tomorrow, they'll be here. They're going to set up on the other end of the rock and with the rig and the bits they got we'll soon find out what's in that rock."

"Good, can't wait to get back home again, this watching nothing is boreing."

Cthulhu was quiet and still, waiting, she had sensed things happening outside the nest but there was no danger, it wasn't her own kind and she was sure nothing could get in. Still she didn't like it, she couldn't understand how they found her here, the island was well away from everything and she was well hidden in the nest. She will just have to get away as soon as she can. But for now she will wait.

Sometimes when Cthulhu would listen there was a lot of noise outside. If she focused on a specific frequency she could pick out sounds like the little creatures were making when she was gathering food. So she settled in and picked out one and listened for awhile. Soon she started to recognize similar sounds that repeated, and then noticed that some sounds went together a lot. It was almost like speaking to one of her own kind but they made no sound they could hear each others mind. Why couldn't these little creatures talk like that? Maybe if she listened long enough she could learn what they were saying?

Cthulhu was starting to understand a little of what she was hearing, these were not the vibrations in the air that she found so annoying from the little creatures, and they were not the talking of her own kind. Those were very different like the others thoughts were right in her own mind. What she was now hearing was more like how she found food but different. At first it was just noise like a lot of different food all at one place, but just like focusing on the different kind of food, now she could focus on the different parts of the noise and make out sounds that reminded her of the thoughts from the others.

Where are they? It's not right that she can't hear anything, something is wrong, she should have heared their chatter even in the nest. That's another thing she will need to find out where they have all gone. Why are they hiding from her, what did she do?

Wow! After 3 weeks those guys just won't give up. They set up the rig, I thought it was going to fall off but they added a whole bunch of extra bracing to keep it on top of that rock.
Oh well.
Start the drilling, - break the bit.
Try a new bit, - break the bit.
Get more bits, - break them.

This is getting old quick.
I stopped watching but I guess they are still at it.

More, better bits just came in, - more broken bits, a lot of yelling by the military and the riggers said shut up or do it yourself.

Back at it with a more powerful rig and more bits, I'm not going to watch anymore, same-old same-old. Time for a drink, or a nap, except for the noise.

It was soon time, Cthulhu could feel it, the noise from the small ones, as she now called them, was not so bad as to disturb her or slow things down, Soon!

"What is going on, are you people doing something wrong, those bits are supposed to drill through anything.
It's just an iron rich rock?"

"Look I don't know thy these damned things aren't working, did you send us the right bits, I know how the military screws up sometimes."

"OK, sorry I lost my patience with civilian workers but this shouldn't be happening. I checked myself these are the cutting bits that we ordered and I can't understand why they aren't working. I'm going to order a stop and we will re-evaluate our position here."

Rrrrring,
-
Rrrrring,
-
Rrrrring,
"Hello", (Maybe I shouldn't have hooked up this phone?)
"Where the hell are you?"
"On my Island, where else?"
"I've been trying to get a-hold of you for days, wanted to update you."
"Anything wrong?"
"No everythings right, too right, if you ask me. Maybe I'm just being parinoid but after what happened I can't help thinking something is going to go wrong."
"Look when all those people were here I sort of put a bug in their ear and told them they could do anything they wanted here if certain dealings of mine were helped along, if you know what I mean. Haven't had any problems with shipments or production since. Relax we're rakin' in the dough, it's all good."
"Ahh, if you say so? I'm still going to worry a bit, just my style."
"What could go wrong?"
"I don't know, - something, - OK, well I'll let you get back to your solitude, talk to you later."
" Yea, don't worry so much, talk later."

"Sir, are you sure it was a good idea to pull all our people off that island?"
"Why? there was nothing there, except a rock we can't penetrate, we'll figure that out later.
Whatever was there is gone, no radiation."
"But what about that cave that disapeared"
"Really, do you believe that there ever was a cave, you saw the guy who owned the island, he was half drunk most of the time, probably couldn't find a cave twice if he tried."
"what about the equipment, Sir?"
"We'll pick that up later, when we need it somewhere.
Right now we need all our resources to locate that radioactive material, and cool things down in the middle east.
This news blackout isn't going to hold forever."

"You're always looking for subtleties." I said to him.

It seemed that he agreed but may be not and it was in his nature to just start analyzing, no matter what. He could not just let it go.

It is not that I had anything to do against his nature, but I used to worry at times that this way he would never let things happen. He would not let it go and he would never feel full blossoming.

As I hung up the phone I realized he was right, I'm always analyzing everything, just like those containers. I finally found out what was confiscated, after our people did an invintory, but I still don't know why. Some secret Government project I guess, but it still bothers me that I don't know. And then there's that cave that I can't find. I'd better get moving, I'll see if I can explore more of the rock, it has to be there?

It was time. - Cthulhu could feel it happening, the feeling of joy and peace was unmistakable, - it was happening, - after all this long waiting. She would not be alone much longer.

Well I couldn't find the cave yesterday, but today should be better, I'll let the whiskey out of the thermos this time, just soda. Phone? - No just leave it I don't want to be bothered today again. Those crazy scientists keep calling, asking if anything unusual is happining at the rock. I told them that what is unusual is that they keep pestering me about it, They can damn well come and look for themselves, or maybe not, they are a bother, tramping around all over the place, asking a lot of silly questions. And then to top it off they evade my questions.

Well, that was a nice walk,
and there is the rock,
Hey, there is the cave,
That was not there yesterday I’m sure of it, what the hell is going on?
Caves just don’t disappear and re-appear, do they?
Wow! This stone around the cave opening is really warm, odd the sun hasn’t been on it that long today and the rest of the rock is cool.

Hmm, must be a big cloud passing over but it was a clear day?
WHAT IS THAT THING?
Oh shit, it’s a mother, a really big mother with young and I’m between it and it’s nest.
Why aren’t my legs working ? I can’t run.
I hope it doesn’t play with it’s food before it eats?
Yeah, a nice quick death, Please.

*in the real world*

Lovecraft sat back, utterly disgusted with himself, the work in front of him, and just about every-thing and -one that came to mind.

'Whatever possessed me to write this garbage? To make Cthulhu a 'girl', and a pregnant one at that! Dumb, dumb, dumb...'

He ripped the page from the typewriter, then took it, and the rest of the manuscript, over to the window. It was warm out, the sun just a sliver on the horizon. 'Is it sunset or sunrise? Pffftt! who cares!'

White sheets of paper fluttered down.

Cthulhu and I lay on the beach, she thought to me,
{"Well that was some story, but I really don't like that Lovecraft character you created, just too flighty."}
I thought back {"Yeah but I had to do something, Glad we kept your way of talking a secret. How are the kids doing?"}
{"Really good they're all busy eating, I think in time the nuclear waste problem will be solved."}
We lay quietly for awhile.
{"Nice sunset."}
{"Yeah, real nice"}

"Why don't you try Crowley for a change?" she asked with a pungent look. I was startled for a while, not by the suggestion, but rather by the manner in which it was made!

" How long have you been familiar with the likes of Crowley? More importantly, do you know about Gurdjieff as well?" I asked her with caution.

It seemed as if she got lost into a thought.

Cool breeze of air was waving her hair and some of them covered her eyes and she was looking exceptionally beautiful.

*in the real world*

White sheets of paper fluttered down and, much to Lovecraft's chagrin, slowed, stopped, and began, with purpose, to resolve themselves into the anthropomorphic figure he had hated for the past 247 years.

'You...you...specter! Demon! Spook! Ghost! You fiction that will not let me be! You are 'my' narrative' and you will not live on!'

Leaping from the window, Lovecraft grabbed hold of the paper entity and before gravity could drag the writhing mass of mass of man, paper, and illusion to the ground, he forced himself up the bunghole of the paper man, forced himself into *transition! crossing the threshold! death/rebirth! transformation!* the fiction and found himself tumbling into the midst one Cthulhu girl, one man of poor description, and visible thought forms spelling out the names of loons and nutjobs.

Everyone present (either real or fiction) stared frankly at Lovecraft's tall, gaunt, gangliness as he stood up, brushed Cthulhu muck from his clothes and said to the very air itself, 'Now enough is enough!'

"But how real is real?" I asked myself.

" I know not, because I am not the constant I." I said to myself.

I knew that the I which asked question was not the I which answered and I also knew that I which heard the question was also different. Then, there are a thousand or may be millions of us?

It was a great debacle. I had considered myself one who is subject to experiences day and night but I was just an illusion created by memory which is like a circular current running through myriads upon myriads of fine points called Is and all of these Is are identical in shapes and sizes or may be they have their subtleties but for those of us who are so accustomed to the linear thought and singular I it's not obvious at all.

In any case I had to accept it and to ask her about Lovecraft and others and their connection to her. I was fading every instant and I was becoming more and more eager for the revelation.

But Cthulhu died long back and you're my dream? Or is it yet a dream?

[ Pinches himself and feels nothing!]

Then it must be a dream. I suspected so. That's why things look so funny and out of place. Then, there is no need to take things too seriously or better yet to keep on laughing all the time.
