Heyo!

Was wondering if any of you do herbal stuff? I bought some Kratom and Kanna. Kratom turned out to be a bummer. Makes you soggy the next day. Kanna is something else. It's a SRI. But, I was looking for something for concentration and studying. I bought Rhodiola (so now I have to stop Kanna, MAOI's don't go well with SRI's) and something else for memory. Anything you can recommend?

Hiya Q~
What part of the world do you hail from? I haven't heard of the herbs that you mention, though I am interested in learning of them. When you say "SRI" are you referring to a Seritonin Reuptake Inhibitor?

Yes, Kanna is an SRI or so it says on the wiki page. It's a natural anti-depressant. But, I was looking for something that can help me learn better.

'Oxygen', if you don't mind working slightly harder ob breathing deeply or in special patterns.

It seems you're looking for a trip, and not to run better.

all drugs have side effects. there's no up without down, when it comes to drugs. not that they are not useful. but if there's a wonder drug in existence that's all good and no bad, someone is making a fortune somewhere and i haven't heard about it.

lately i've been taking 2oz of acai berry juice a day which has been helping me energetically. i would recommend it in small doses.

thinker's comment about oxygen is also important. poor breathing patterns affect your cognitive function. meditation and yoga can help in those regards.

cheers,
lib

Hey I know this guy, Q... lol

Just propagated some Khat (Catha edulis) which is huge in Yemen apparently. Unfortunately its got an amphetamine like alkaloid in it and can only be eaten fresh... and its illegal in the U.S. So don't tell anybody I have it (lol).

Centella asiatica (Gotu Kola, found in most healthfood stores as a supplement) is labeled as an adaptogen. I know if it because it grows in the mountains where I live. The concept of an adaptogen sounds too good to be true though, but I would persue them over addictive plants that perpetuate highs and lows.

Haven't tried Khat as I can barely handle coffee. The living plant is more of a collectors item.

I've chewed on Gotu Kola. It tastes like the green top on a carrot.
It doesn't do anything from my experience, but the question in my mind is whether any adaptogens really work (how would one measure that).

Wiki on "Adaptogen" wrote:
An adaptogen must have a normalizing effect, i.e. counteracting or preventing disturbances to homeostasis brought about by stressors. Moreover, it must be innocuous with a broad range of therapeutic effects without causing any major side effects. The adaptogen concept does not fit easily into the Western model of medicine.

Well I drink a lot of tea but find that caffeine really wears me down. The crashes are bad and its addictive.

Caffeine is used to reinvigorate sperm during artificial insemination. While it wakes sperm up for the great race to the egg it also shortens sperm life span. They crash too.

I need to drink three espressos before I notice the caffeïne. -_- Sucks when you desperately need to stay awake, like when driving. sticking out tongue

I once got quite a bit shaky after 200 grams of noir-de-noir chocolate - about 70% pure, I guess. Won't do that again - it's a waste of good chocolate. grin

As for better studying, I recommend a 15 minute walk every 60 minutes. sticking out tongue
