Subject: Survival vs. bliss
A question posed by a friend: "if complete bliss led necessarily to extinction, would it be a reason to abandon it?"

No.

In most of the so called famous suggestions about moksha/liberation/nirvana in Buddhism/Hinduism and other thoughts: complete bliss is often synonymous with extinction.

I have a few suggestions and questions which are random:

1. Why extinction of species would really matter to someone who is not there to attend it? In other words : If I am liberated : for once and for ever: I would not be there to attend anything which going to happen with species.

2. Bodhisattva: waits for liberating entirety of beings--even if he is ripened enough to dip into liberation as per Buddhism.

[b]Why Moksha is myth[b]: As per Hinduism : after liberation: you're what ought to be or what you were: unaduletrated bliss: Thereafter--similar to you entirety of creation gets liberated and thereafter it all comes full circle: to the place( a very poor word here!) from where it all started. What was it? Lila or Play..Will it begin again--definitely..

So: Liberation happens when there is ripening: ripening is getting spiritual maturity through various incarnations after various experiences and realizing that there is no ultimate pleasure in material experiences( it's a given that we are incessantly in search of ultimate pleasure because that is our true nature). This ripening is bound to happen for everyone. This state of ripening which is yours today was of someone else a few years ago and would be of someone else after a few years ago.

Since it's bound to happen there is no need to rush or slow down or care about a damn thing. Gurus and preachers are doing what their circumstances( nature) force them to do. None liberates nobody. There is nothing good or bad---because if you see the whole picture everyone will be guilty or will be saint at times.

To abandon what, the bliss? This may possibly be the most essential (and interesting) question I've ever read on a forum.

Isn't that what every member of humankind consciously (and otherwise) struggles with every minute of every day in every value decision presented?

Self awareness means we possess the capacity to understand (at least) a fraction of the difference between extinction and survival, and our own place in its outcome.

indeed.

i'm thinking that the only real bliss i'm interested in anymore is the kind that comes from satisfaction in and recognition for my achievements, and love and validation from the people i love. without those, i doubt i'd care much about my own survival, let alone that of the species. any other kind of bliss seems like it would be artificial, lacking in substance.

with those, however, i think i would find enough value in humanity that i would think it's worth keeping around.

it's definitely an interesting question, though. will continue to ponder.
