I would go back to that day in 3rd grade when, walking home from school along the creek, those big boys threw my plaid red lunch box into the water. I would not run into the water and ruin my nice school shoes. I would have taken my shoes off and then waded in for my lunch box.

Had I not cried and ran home when those big boys threw my jacket over the fence when I was walking home from school in first grade... I might not have felt my older brother a hero for going back with me later to retrieve it.

Still, my brother was largely an asshole.

Every dark cloud has a silver lining, or every silver lining has a dark cloud. There are many things in life that seem to be a dark cloud but on closer examination there would be a great loss without them. My first marrage didn't go well, but I have my son, and my first wife is still my friend, how could I choose otherwise.

You can choose your friends, you are stuck with your family.
