Subject: Fragrance of a good man!
This topic is inspired by lib's 'Love vs Obligation' thread.

Some years ago, I read in a book by Swami Vivekananda ( a Hindu monk) :

"Jesus and Buddha are indeed jewels of humanity but they are of second rank, the true diamonds never come to be known widely; do their work silently and go away. Their presence affects humanity in a very powerful way".

1. Similar to the thread 'love vs obligation': Is a good human being, who prefers solitude and does 'not too much' by action, can affect humanity just by his fragrance [ prototypes in east: Laozi, Raman maharshi ]

2. I have not been able to prove how, 'presence' can be more vital than 'actions' but I have intuitive understanding that 'presence' is more important than actions.

For example: In general, you might prefer a rich a saint who does a lot of charity; opens a lot of schools, orphanages or hospitals.

There might be a saint, like Shirdi Sai Baba, who opened no schools, did no charity, had no money, no possessions, no political party, no group; just a few devotees.

What are your ideas on it?

i'm not sure what is meant by the fragrance / presence of these "true jewels"? in what way do these affect the people around them?

I am also not sure about it, that is why I raised the question. May be they just have a very good frequency of vibration...people get inspired when they come in their contact...or something similar to it. They might affect people at karmik level and not necessarily by actions/charity.

hm, i see. it's a good question, and an interesting analogy. i do believe there are people who have "good energy", people who are natural healers, who can affect others positively with their presence. i would presume such individuals are highly grounded, moving in flow with a tremendous faith in the process. good frequency of vibration, as you say. yes yes, i do believe it's possible. i had a boyfriend who was like that, to a certain extent (in fact, to a much greater extent than anyone else i have ever met, before, or since). he greatly inspired me. i think he positively influenced people in very subtle ways. i have a friend who described in the same way a woman that she knows and greatly respects. she, likewise, felt that it was very rare to know such an individual.

i don't know that i would consider "presence" more important than actions. i think they are both important in different ways. someone who lacks presence can easily prove their value through actions. someone who has strong presence, though, can perhaps accomplish more through subtlety of action rather than bold action. it may be that they're so much in flow that the rippling effect of their actions is bound in positive directions, for long "distances", for many iterations. whereas a person who acts on good intentions, but without strong presence, may have many unanticipated negative effects of their actions. or the positive effect may be short lived.

very interesting topic! thumb up

by the way, it occurred to me this morning that one of my tarot guides describes the page of wands as "a young person of faithful countenance who, even unintentionally, helps others". it reminded me of this topic.
