Subject: Why Bother?
I've asked my parents countless times
Why they can't work together
And they respond "Why bother?
It's over it won't get better"

My teachers I have begged and pleaded
To let me do as I druther
Still they remark "Why bother?
Your thoughts upset us and others"

Religions are corrupting
All the ones we love
But they all ask "Why bother?
We'll just pray from above"

Our governments are blind and deaf
But no matter what I say
The whole world says "Why bother?
No thing will change today"
______________________________________________________

Parents, teachers, religions, and governments
Want me to be more than I already am
To that I reply "Why bother?"
And I wonder why I turned out like them

This was written right before I joined this forum three years ago...

I was pissed at everyone trying to make me stop being philosophical and I took out a pencil and jotted a rough draft of this out. Then a few days later I found The Couch. -Aha!- I thought -I finally have people who would be willing to talk to me regarding things I care about-

You see, at the time I was attending a program call Intensive Psychiatric Rehabilitation Treatment(or was it Therapy). Unfortunately, considering the motto of IPRT was 'it just is', I discovered the entire thing was bullshit.

'It just is'?! There was no way I was going to accept that. If Jesus Christ and Martin Luther King Jr could change the world, then why should I have to accept I can't? Just because I'm mentally ill? Damn that pissed me off.

Everyone there had a superiority complex... which just isn't right for anyone let alone the mentally ill. But I left out the best part! Because I am and was a skeptic, I constantly contradicted myself. I ended up being labeled the 'Walking Contradiction' by the Staff in charge of everything there. The name stuck. There are still times people call me it.

I wonder how the higher ups of the St. Mary's Hospital would react if I told them this and that a bunch of complete strangers on a philosophy forum was more of a help, support, and comfort to me than their program for the highest functioning mentally ill.

Sorry for the rant, but damn... those people STILL piss me off.

walking contradiction, ha! aren't we all!

the first philosophy forum i ever went to was called mad philosophers guild, it was a little over 10 years ago. that's where i first met monk (and smoki too, later). gosh, such a long time ago. have you heard of that one? it's no longer around. i remember feeling so incredibly excited to find it. i had gone through my entire life being surrounded by people who had no interest in talking about the things i wanted to talk about. i didn't know what was philosophy was about, because i had grown up in a christian cult (jehovah's witnesses). internet = win!

well if you want to know what i think, every little thing you do changes the world. sometimes in little ways, sometimes in really big ways that you don't always find out about, at least not right away. also, if jesus was around today, he would certainly meet society's definition of "mentally ill". something to consider.

Yes, doubt those because real awakenings are rare and false awakenings are a dime a dozen.
