One Way To Survive In This Philosophy Forum

Take a deep breath. Pop a few Advil while you’re at it. There’s no telling when that philosophical headache will come on.

Boot up your computer and try to be patient with the logging in process for once.

Release the breath you’ve been holding from anxiety. Remember that they are just normal people too and they aren’t going to eat you alive. Temporarily forget that normality is an illusion. Also, forget that the ARE people who WOULD eat you alive if given the chance.

Sign into www.thecouchforum.com and check to see if you have new PMs. You don’t? Good. No need to respond to those at least.

Check out The Thinking Spot. Rejoice at the fact that you’ve received several replies since your last post. Wallow in self pity for a moment when you realize no one was too fond of it. Take a moment to remember that everyone has their own opinion and hurriedly apologize for any offence that may have been taken. It was probably your fault anyway. Be grateful that apologies work wonders. Be gratefuller still that most people are kind enough to accept them and move on. Ignore the worry that this person might be the unkind kind. You won’t know until you try! End your post with another (hopefully less offensive) possibility. Hope that it is received well.

Go to another topic. Enjoy that this conversation was taken well and your ideas are being accepted. Debates are fun as long as you feel like you’re being validated. Shrug and remember they’re fun anyway.

Note how friendly ctrl+c and ctrl+v are. Note also, that google definitions are very useful in a pinch and never refuse to use them. Pride is something not even the wise can afford.

Read a new topic. Of course, you don’t understand anything in this one. That’s what the fricking link is for, dammit! Follow the link and realize this stuff still doesn’t make sense. Make a mental note to ask about it later. Nobody ever killed anyone for asking questions… Put Socrates and several other convenient examples out of your mind for now.

Plan to sign off for awhile if no one else has posted anything new and wonder if you can hold to that plan. You’ve been part of this forum for what… three years? It’s only in the last six months you’ve become truly active. Once a couchian, always a couchian, eh?

Become bored when you realize no one else is online and likely they won’t be around for the rest of the night. Shift from The Gallery to Dust Bunnies in hopes of writing something randomly.

Remember today was your first attempt at writing second person literature and decide to attempt it again. Switch back to The Gallery.

Start a new thread and write of your days with the forum. Write an obnoxiously long story and hope your pathetic tries at humor make SOMEONE laugh. As you finish the story try to think of a fitting name for it. Decide on the title: “One Way To Survive In This Philosophy Forum”. After all, it can’t be “My Way…” if the story was written in second person.

Cry as the internet connection fails and you lose everything you’ve written. Be quiet, you idiot! You don’t need your Mom to wake up and see you like this over something this stupid.

Retype the entire thing on your old version of Microsoft Word. Sigh with relief as you finally finish it and laugh at how the internet failure just made your story a bit more interesting.

Best way to save urself grief: Type our your responses in {WordPad, NotePad, Word, Works WP...etc} and SAVE YOUR WORK periodically. This will avoid the common and frustrating happenstance of 'writens-disappearens' which has caused many a hole in walls to be created by fists and probably a few broken hands if not frightened women and children cowering from raging maniacs.

Also, learn the formatting code to add italics and underline and bold as easy as typing 123.

And remember, if you ain't got nothing to say, have a witty remark handy.

Stay on this forum for a little while and you will notice how your priority changes from winning the lottery to winning an argument against that ignorant *$@é##à*§£%%%@@ over there. laughingwink
