So, Lib, who'd you piss off to be the focus of such vandalism? wink

nope, not effective.

Otherwise I would suggest just letting him do whatever he wants unobstructed. That will surley bore him to oblivion.

possibly so, but i'd rather not bother having a forum if its members can't treat each other with some modicum of respect.

One good reason it won't work: you cut off your nose to spite your face...that is: if the offender -- like me -- primarily uses library access, killing the IP address not only rids Lib of the offender, but also every other potential member using library access...a whole county (or, in my case, parish) can be excluded from 'the couch' simply because of one schmuck.

Along with depriving herself of potential members, the ploy is shortsighted because 'jack of all holes' can always change access points (IP addresses) simply by driving 20 minutes into another system's sphere.

I think Lib has the best solution: root 'em out when they shamble out...terminate and ban the account and let 'em keep coming.

Successful vigilance is eternal: keep your goddamned eyes OPEN all the time...

alas, that's not the current plan. i have member registration turned off at the moment, now looking into switching the forum to invite only... would be interesting to give it a try.

Yep... that would be a best alternative, provided that the JG or some others don't have a circle already in the couch. If that happens, again the same thing happens as multiple invites go out everyday and the spam doubles.

whenever someone registers, i would know who invited them. someone who keeps inviting in problematic members would be risking his or her own membership here.

ok, now testing the invitation-only stage of forum evolution. to invite people to the forum, click on the "options" link just under the logo.

I don't want to give too much info to any online vandals, but there are ways to get here from your home computer even if your ip is banned. :/

it's not a complimentary expression, but i don't think it stems from any personal hatred toward you specifically. (mind you, he called himself a whore as well.) you might be interested in the further discussion that took place in this thread.

I disagree. Our old friend is not a moron. If he were "trolling" he would have employed more finesse.

Behind a mask our true feelings of hate and aggression can find an outlet.

well, i can't pretend to know him much better than anyone else, so who knows. it's certainly hateful and aggressive behavior, i just don't know that he hates you specifically or if maybe he just hates the idea of having friends in general. i imagine he enjoys seeing everyone speculate on the topic.
