hi everyone,

i'm sorry to announce that the couch forum will begin a hiatus of indefinite length beginning january 1, 2010. i have a lot of things going on in my personal life right now, one of which involves taking care of my mother whose health has seriously deteriorated in recent months. hence i would rather take an official break here than watch the couch suffer for months from my neglect, as i have seen happen in other forums.

so, what this means is the couch will be closed to accepting any new members or posts after december 31. no winter newsletter either, sorry fellas. there have been a lot of great discussions here, and all the topics will still be available for viewing during the hiatus. i hope to eventually re-open the forum to active discussion, maybe in the spring. i will post a note to all the registered members if / when the forum re-opens.

"taking care of my mother whose health has seriously deteriorated in recent months"

The proper choice, I think, when you love someone.

Good luck!

Sorry to hear your mother is not doing well, lib. I hope for the best for her, you and your family.

We'll miss you, and we'll miss the couch too.

Best wishes to all for 2010. See you around, folks !

Sorry to hear that. Good luck to your mother.

For what it's worth, PF has been fine without me doing any admining for most of the last year. Different situation though since there were already several other admins there who took progressive responsibility over a long period.

So: any suggestions as to a place where a Grendel might go, hang his hat, sip coffee, and have 'conversation'?

I've been pissing 'round a bit in the Dissident Philosophy Forum Nancy Drew offered up a while back.

It bites, but it does have its pluses...

hrm. I mistrust philosophy forums who put forward ideas or attitudes towards philosophy. But I'll be taking a look around. Probably pass through there too.

Cheers.

The Dissident Philosophy forum is less about 'philosophy' or 'philosophizing' than it is about a bunch of communitarians sitting around kvetching about the evils of the debbil, 'capitalism'...utopian schemes are offered up, ass-kissing and pedantism run rampant.

For me: it's shooting fish in a barrel... wink

I'm going to take a chance here and post a link to a forum I frequent since the couch will be unavailable for a while. There aren't many forums if any that can replace the couch's quality of conversation and libertygrls leadership. Much of the conversation in this other forum is lite but there are some of us that like to dig a little deeper when we can. Some of you will probably fit in really well and others probably will not, but all of you are welcome to try it out. My user name there is Ahso!. Hope to see you there. If not I'll see you when the couch reopens.

Ain't that the truth!! peace

I'll be hanging around the Tao Bums (http://www.thetaobums.com/) as Astral Monk. Need to increase my learning of qigong and kundalini.

And I'll probably still lurk at Islamic Board (http://www.islamicboard.com/) so I can get angry and yell at religion, lol. Allah knows best.

Thanks to all for making the couch an expressive, stimulating, creative atmosphere. We'll miss it! Until then,

peace

Well, I wondered that nobody said a word here and thought it’s a dead end over here ;-) like all long roads do end somewhere even in the US ;-)

Finally...now I can continue to rant about all the things that are important to me! BTW, have yall SEEN the 'mascots' for the 2012 olympics? A most blatant form of occultism. They don't even try to hide it anymore.
