Subject: world peace
Freedom is but a word until people make it a reality. But in order for anything to be obtained it must be known what it is. Freedom Love Peace are all states of mind but in the instance of peace it must b on all levels of humanity it cannot be done with one country or a billion people everyone must live in peace. in order to obtain I think an acceptable ay of thought and life must be presented that all can agree on religion can still be free of course but it must be tought that we are all but people in this world and power can only come with money and if one person has all the money it cannot be used. The way people look for peace is pointless but i always go by a gaundi saying be the change you wish to see in the world if the change you wish to see is peace then be peaceful and to have this same mind frame form every individual in the world is the only way for world peace to come into exsistance. Peace must be thought on on a global basis by each and every individual but then it sounds communist i think words play a big role in people not being ablke to get along some words give bad sounds to good things i think people should shut up and look at the world the way it is enlighten yourself and except the world for as it is but do not join the comotion destroying it. Boyycott everything.

Peace: a nice idea...enduring fiction...a rainbow to chase but never catch.

Good luck getting nearly seven billion folks to agree on anything...good luck getting ten folks to agree on anything.

And who decides what's 'acceptable'?

For myself: I decide such things...even a casual review of anything I've written here, in The Couch, shows what I consider acceptable or attractive is generally unappealing to the majority.

Without even knowing what you have in mind: I politely, but firmly, decline to participate.

You, of course, should feel 'free' to chase after any rainbow you like... wink

Eek, I should hope that seven billion people do not agree. It would be a gruesome world indeed. But I don't see how that should a condition for peace. Humans should be intelligent and civilised enough to live together dispite, or, hopefully, with great benefit from, their differences.

"It would be a gruesome world indeed."

But, Lib: it IS a gruesome world.

Exactly as it should be...

Civilization is a veneer peeling up at the edges...an apple cart waiting to be toppled...a heart attack in progress...

someone told me that we are only meant to interact with a community of about 200 people, that are brain is wired for a small group ... and here we are interacting, or at least aware of, so many different cultures. don't get me wrong, i love the internet as it keeps me from feeling isolated. i would hope someday we can accept our differences, embrace and grow from the diversity without feeling threatened, and that is where i think world peace will rest.

hi muse,

i read something similar a number of years ago, can't seem to find it in google at the moment. but basically the assertion was that we only have the capacity to care personally about a limited number of people. beyond that, people become in our minds more like concepts or abstractions and not really something we can feel about emotionally (except perhaps on principle, but not out of personal attachment per se). cultures are something we can contemplate conceptually, and may also experience firsthand with some appreciation, but i think in general our minds have the need to simplify certain things so as to be able to grasp the complexity of it all. this is probably why there's such an unfortunately prominent tendency toward prejudice, because making assumptions saves people the trouble of having to get to know others as individuals.
