Subject: An Introduction
This is my first time posting here. As a matter of fact this is the first time the urge to seek out intellectual minds beat down the inner procrastinator that has always controlled me.

For weeks and months I'll wake and go through the uneventful days. My thought will take itself where it will and I will worry about things like papers that are due or what I'm going to eat at night. Life just goes on around me and I walk to its numbing beat. Every once in a while I will hear something or see something that will send my mind reeling in endless branches of thought. Had I more initiative these thoughts would be recorded so I can bring them and their exact details up whenever I want to seek their comfort. So I guess I am finally doing something about it by coming here and spilling my mind to a group of strangers I know nothing about and know nothing to me. Hopefully I will find people that can empathize, share, and even oppose my thoughts and sate the yearning for intellectual conversation that I feel has been missing from my life.

It is funny, the things that set me off. Tonight it was a movie that I saw with my old high-school friends. "Watchmen". It is a movie about superheroes. But it wasn't the flashy graphics or the actual dialogue of the film that upset me enough to seek out those who might talk with me on another level. It was the different view that my pals all took of the movie. It differed drastically from mine. It was the fact that they -were- focused on the sights and sounds of the movie. They bantered back and forth about it when my mind was stuck on the messages that the movie tried to get across. It was a message of a general human identity or nature, and that it could not be changed over night. It is something that is set in stone only being changed slightly over the long period of our existence.

So I suppose my observation or question or whatever it is that floods my thought is this; I can only perceive from my own perceptions. I can only think from my own mind. Are there others out there that think like I do? Are there others out there that share my desire to have thoughts as full as the heartiest stew and to share with others all of the flavors and ingredients that go into them? Are they here?

the medium is the message, eh? i read some of the comics, i haven't seen the movie yet. i wouldn't discount the effects though. by merging philosophy with exciting visuals, you always risk that the visuals will steal attention, but you increase the size of the audience. it's good that you were still able to think about the ideas.

my experience is that lots of forums are busier than this one. i'm not the first to find the couch through dmoz, but i looked at the couch's competition there and i found this place to be the most interesting and most friendly (and nearly the least self-important.) there is enough activity here to satisfy what i was looking for. if you were looking for the same things i was, then you may enjoy it as much as i do.

Hi Umbra

I am new here too, and the folks seem pretty friendly - which I'm not that used to on forums. They'll put you through your paces though.. heh zen

I will be interested to here your thoughts on things.
