Subject: Trains and Circuits: A Life
This was written some years ago during my 'disillusionment phase'...

Which I'm still undergoing I'm afraid.....with refinements.

Trains And Circuits:A Life.

So I'm not engaged with reality,
As fully as I ought;
I often mount the train,
My circuit of dull pain,

-If it's a usual day-
Concocting ideas of why and what I'm doing,
Only shallow sentiment
Comes.

People, their mass produced rags,
Their various faces,
Various postures, expressions,
A wandering hoard.

To be glanced at as I descend
To subway where
I've no choice but to ignore
The indifference, the usual mild alienation,

The human scene.
Not engaged as fully as I ought,
To the truth of it, perhaps,
The feelings within me,

Because I jack into the curcuit,
Every morn, like a drug addict,
Seeking the next hit,
Yet there's no rush in this.

hug

a reading of this would make a good backdrop for a short film on the same themes, in the style of your other poetry reading. public transit is a compelling backdrop as one of the few places where you can see so many people completely and deliberately disconnected from each other. alienation in the midst of a sea of people, the psychology of transition (among other things).

nice work. thumb up

It's odd viewing the passions of you twenties from your thirties. I was an alienated young man but who isn't? It still rings true though. 'Now' we are full of intellectual balances to let us see 'the world as it is' in more realistic terms yet at the back of it all the angry young man still does his thing, the passion hasn't really gone. It's just you become more objective and make allowances on a grand scale I suppose.

Thanks for responding L. You always provide an interesting/interested response to my stuff. I've stopped writing for a while but re-read something the other day that convinces me there is something worth while as long as I keep refining what I do.

Though I haven't written any verse really for about two years (except the Obama piece) and I think it was an angry young man venting more than anything.

Hope to post here more often in the future but I've gone off forums a bit recently.... - you shudder in disgust-kooky

ha, not at all. perhaps "real" life beckons to feed your inner artist new material. it does for me, at least.

L.
